Last updated: December 22nd 2021

We want you to have the best time when you come bowling with us, whether you're celebrating something special or just enjoying some quality family time together. That's why we've answered many frequently asked questions below to help you plan the perfect outing. For centre specific questions, please visit the centre FAQs page.

How long does a game of bowling take?

1

A game of bowling takes approximately 10 minutes per person. So if six people were bowling, it would typically last about an hour. The more players on your lane, the longer the game will last.

How many people can I go bowling with?

1

If you make a ten pin bowling booking and the local restrictions subsequently change (which means that you can no longer bowl with your original group), then you will be able to cancel or amend your booking with us.

Please check Government websites for the latest information:

How many people can bowl on one lane?

1

We generally advise 6 people to a lane with a maximum being 8 in some centres.

Can I bowl in my own shoes?

1

Yes, we prefer everyone (adults and children) to bowl in their own shoes at our centres, as long as they are a flat soled, closed toe shoes.

How old do you have to be to bowl?

1

There are no restrictions, although we suggest that given the weight of bowling balls, the minimum age for a child to bowl is four. As long as you’re fit and strong enough, there is no upper age limit, and we love to see all ages coming together to have great fun on the lanes. Of course, areas of our centres have age restrictions, so we can't allow under 18's in our bar after 9pm. Under 18's are also only allowed in our premises after 6pm with a responsible adult/parent or legal guardian. We will ask for proof of age. The junior age range is from 0-15 years old.

What age is classed as junior for bowling?

1

The junior age range is from 0-15 years old. We suggest that the minimum age for a child to bowl is 4, but it is solely dependent on the child and their ability.

What is the lightest ball you do?

1

Our smallest ball is XS, which is 6lb in weight. We do have ramps that let kids push the ball at speed instead of bowling by hand, and bumpers that stop the balls going into the gutter.

What is your dress code?

1

There is no set dress code, other than that we ask our guests to remove any hoods and caps so that we can see their smiling faces! Obviously, we ask that you behave appropriately and considerately at all times, which covers wearing appropriate clothing for a family centre.

Can I book bowling in advance?

1

Yes. As our bowling centres can get very busy at peak times, and we don’t like turning people away, we always advise people to book online in advance. Book online or through our contact centre in advance for the best prices.

Are the Bowling Balls Cleaned on a Regular Basis?

1

We know that safety is a primary concern for all of our bowlers and visitors at Hollywood Bowl. We have undertaken a risk assessment and as part of this implemented a rigorous & enhanced cleaning regime across our centres.

As part of this between games, bowling balls are cleaned thoroughly on lanes and we have installed full height dividers between the lane seating areas. Additionally, we are cleaning down all surfaces within the bowling area, helping to ensure that both this area and the entire centre remains safe for bowlers. We have also limited the number of bowling balls available on lanes, so your bowling balls will be your own.

Also available at Hollywood Bowl we are able to offer disposable gloves upon request from reception, in adult and children’s sizes, should any customers feel more comfortable using these during their visit.
